IMPORTANT NOTE Athletic Therapist is NOT a protected health profession title. The profession of Athletic Therapy is NOT regulated anywhere in Canada. The OSTA: Ontario Sports and Athletic Therapist Association, is in pursuit of statutory regulation for Ontario ATs for practitioners registered with the Association who adhere to the OSTA professional code of conduct. There is an OSTA official registry of these professionals, and it is called the AT-CRED Registry. EHB insurers check for registration of OSTA members under the AT-CRED registry to validate Good Standing and to verify the practitioner has been granted a Verifiable Practice Credential as a REG.AT-ON Athletic Therapist. The REG.AT-ON Verifiable Digital Credential has been issued by an authorized credentialing platform that complies with ISO 17024 standards for professional designations. The public and employers can accept the REG.AT-ON credential as a symbol of trust and reliability, the practitioner meets competency standards. The REG.AT-ON Athletic Therapist credential provided to OSTA members has been verified by AT-REG: the Athletic Therapy Regulation Advisory Group. AT-REG, incorporated in 2019, accredited the REG.AT-ON credential in 2023 against the validated practice competencies and standards defined in the copyrighted official AT Practice Analysis. |
Major EHB Insurers turn to Athletic Therapy Ontario for its AT-CRED credential verification to confirm that treating Athletic Therapists are meeting the Ontario practice standards and the Ontario AT scope of practice as a Reg. AT-ON in good standing. To this end, verification of competencies, skills, certifications and practice credentials is important. AT-ON has provided EHB insurers a dedicated portal since 2023 as a source and resource to the sector. Now, with AT-CRED, we can provide credential verification to recognized ISO standards. Be sure to be included, as it will assist in the prompt processing of EHB Insurer Claims with major insurers for your clients and clinics. Reg.AT-ON members are asked to follow the steps to be included in AT-CRED verification between August 15 and October 15, 2025. The AT-CRED registry is Athletic Therapy Ontario's first step to members' qualified access to the Telus Health eClaims platform this Fall. |

Registered Ontario Therapists (Reg.AT-ON)—Members in good standing with the Ontario Association—will soon join Athletic Therapists across Canada in accessing TELUS Health’s eClaims direct billing service at no cost, starting later this year. Please note that there will be a brief delay before Reg.AT-ON Members can apply for access to the eClaims service. This delay allows time to complete the AT-CRED® verification process, which supports Ontario’s statutory regulation readiness program. | AT-CRED® was introduced at the Ontario Association’s June Town Hall and will be available to members starting in August. |
Completing the declaration of all professional certifications, licences, and designations will assist in confirmation of Ontario Athletic Therapist practice, competencies captured in AT billing codes. |
