CHARACTER AWARD
| RESEARCH AWARD Evidence-based practice is "best practice" among health care professionals. The OATA is developing an annual research award to an Athletic Therapist academic relevant to capturing the efficacy, competency and scope distinction to advance understanding of the value of Athletic Therapy to patient health outcomes. The goal is to have this ready by 2022. |
BURSARY & SCHOLARSHIP |
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION BURSARY The OATA managed to complete negotiations with both Sheridan and York to confirm the first OATA Diversity & Inclusion Bursary. This will be an annual commitment. The Bursary was a commitment in the OATA's Anti-Racism and Diversity plan made public on June 6, 2020. The OATA is committed to tackling systemic racism and to advancing inclusion in the profession and this Association. We are pleased to share the enthusiasm from both Sheridan and York to these new $1,000 Bursaries.
The Diversity & Inclusion Bursary is an entry-level award available to Year One students at Sheridan College and Year Three students at York University. Final details are being worked out with the academic institutions. More details will be announced in May. Click below read the full news on the announcement of the Diversity and Inclusion Bursary for York-Sheridan Students | OATA JAMIE LAWS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Sheridan College: This academic scholarship is awarded to a third-year student with a B+ (7.0) or higher grade, recognized for their character and commitment. The award is paid for the students's fourth-year. York University: The academic scholarship will be awarded to a student in the second-year of the AT certificate program and will be paid in the third and final year of the AT program. ABOUT JAMIE LAWS Jamie was a gentle giant of a soul and cast a shadow of unquestioned passion and commitment over his cherished professions of Athletic Therapy and Chiropractic. He had career-long leadership roles in both professions. He was distinguished by his character, his integrity and the manner in which he conducted himself throughout his life both personally and professionally. Jamie Laws' legacy will live on as a result of his remarkable contribution to health care and through his amazing work and these academic scholarship. |
